Eoghan McGrath (b1975) is an Irish self taught artist and painter specialising in oil and acrylic.
The conceptual concerns and technical challenges of representing the figure in innovative ways are the dominant preoccupations that propel his art.
He is interested and invigorated by the uncertainty inherent in the creative application of paint from exacting realism to the exuberance of abstractions.
His paintings have featured in the Royal Hibernian Academy Annual Exhibition in Dublin on numerous occasions where he was awarded the K&M Evans Prize for Painting and in the Royal Ulster Academy Annual Exhibitions in Belfast. He was shortlisted for the inaugural Davy Portrait Prize in 2007, the Hennessy Portrait Prize in 2017 in the National Gallery of Ireland, and the John Richardson French Residency award in 2024.
Selected exhibitions include solo shows at the Molesworth Gallery in Dublin, and as Artist in Residence in Carton House, Maynooth, Co. Kildare. His work is held in public and private collections both nationally and internationally, including the OPW state collection and the National Self Portrait Collection of Ireland in Limerick and New York.
